We Made a Motivation Mixtape
When some of us were growing up, it was part of youth to make a mixtape for your friends or your crush. You’d spend a few hours putting your favorite songs together for their listening enjoyment. By the time you hit college, mixtapes had a new level of sophistication — overarching themes and hidden messages.
You remember. Nick Hornby even wrote a book, High Fidelity (later a successful film and a critically-acclaimed series), that was a love letter to mixtapes.
The hitmakers that were featured on your mixtape would depend on your generation. ’80s kids might have Whitney Houston, Paula Abdul, Michael Jackson. ’90s might be Nirvana, Blur, Oasis. You remember.
That was back when the portable mechanism for delivering music was cassette tapes. Then it was CDs. Now it’s electronic music playlists.
No matter the technology, sharing mixtapes or playlists has brought us and our friends joy and inspiration for as long as we can remember. There’s no reason why the concept should apply only to music.
What if you could make your team a guidance and inspiration playlist for surviving — and even thriving — as professionals during this time of prolonged remote work and major workplace shifts?
What if that playlist could include not the greatest hitmakers of the time, but instead some of the world’s greatest athletes, business minds, and motivators?
Well, it can and it does. Today we officially launched PepTalk Playlists. Playlists are a series of themed PepTalks tailored to address specific topics and challenges, led by speakers with complementary yet different backgrounds and specializations. A Playlist consists of five unique talks on themes affecting today’s workplace teams: Health & Wellness, Remote Workforce Motivation, Diversity & Inclusion, Performance / Output, Change Management, Sales Tactics, and Resilience / Adversity.
Each Playlist will include a mix of coaches from different fields of experience and perspectives, but whose overall message fits the Playlist theme. If your team needs a boost to overcome current experiences and feelings of adversity, we might combine a world title-winning rugby coach with a world-traveling pilot, a former Twitter executive and remote work expert, a former foster child, and a chart-topping musician.
It’s like making a mixtape filled with expertise and motivation — using our live video platform rather than a cassette tape. Like choosing artists and songs back in the day, we find it pretty neat to put combinations of speakers together for the most positive and impactful PepTalk experience (both the individual Playlist sessions and the series as a whole). Each Playlist speaker will be different in style or experience from the next, but each one will leave your team feeling inspired and as though they can individually and collectively face the world in a new way.
As with old-school mixtapes, the effort is on us. We devise the ideal Playlist of speakers based on the needs of your workforce / team, and you log in to the PepTalk platform at the appointed time. You don’t have to spend half your day on it, either. PepTalks are micro-sessions, designed for our busy compression society. You’ll still have time for emails and getting that important project done.
If your team needs a regular schedule of PepTalks from our Playlist roster, reach out to our Playlist crew. We’d be happy to make up a mixtape for you — John Cusack not included.
